UI/UX Artist - Freelance
The first part of my mission for Sorting Center was to determine the art direction for the general UI. Théo (project director and developer) and Garance (Art Director and Concept Artist) had prepared a big moodboards with their inspirations and wishes, therefore I was able to use those, as well as my own references, so as to give them several examples for the HUD. I then used this as a base to establish the rest of the game's UI.
My goal was to prepare the UI and UX for all panels available for the vertical slice, which means the HUD, the terminal et the shop. Each test was accompanied by ideas of animation and/or discussions about the user experience so as to think of the game flow. As it is a game that is developed with a controller in mind, it was a real challenge to know how to put all the necessary pieces of information while limiting controller inputs and avoiding to overwhelm the player.
When the iterations were done, I exported every UI asset as placeholders so that Theo could integrate them to the Unreal Project depending on how he worked on it. I also worked on a couple of frame by frame animations for the game's transitions, again as placeholders for the vertical slice.
